Dallas Jenkins teased a scene from the upcoming sixth season of “The Chosen” during a livestream Sunday night — noting that many scenes in the next installment of the biblical drama are “not going to be easy.”
Jenkins, the creator behind “The Chosen,” called the making of the sixth season “the hardest thing we’ve ever done,” and added that creating the upcoming season has been “one of the most challenging things in my life, personally and professionally.”
The brief Season 6 teaser — which Jenkins said will expire in a few days — depicts the events of John 18, in which Jesus Christ is arrested and brought to the high priest Caiaphas’ house.
In the biblical drama’s portrayal of the events, Jesus is questioned for his teachings and the high priests search for a reason to condemn him.
“I know that in a scene like that, where you’re seeing Jesus get smacked for the first time, it’s hard, and I understand that,” Jenkins told livestream viewers after previewing the scene. “It’s going to be a hard season.”
“But it’s also a season that is about the greatest act of love that’s ever been committed in the history of the world,” he added. “So as difficult as it’s going to be, I really do challenge you to make sure that you lean in and you engage, and that you get everything that you can out of every episode of Season 6 when we finally release it to you.”
Funding for the sixth season, which begins a phased release late next year, is officially complete, including its “supersized” finale, Jenkins shared during the livestream.
This summer, Jenkins revealed plans to expand the sixth season’s finale, which will include a depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, to a feature-length film combining episodes seven and eight — an effort which he said required a budget of $30 million.
At the time, Jenkins pleaded with fans to give donations for the remaining $14 million in funding needed to complete the finale. Every season of “The Chosen” has been crowdfunded through the Come and See Foundation.
Now that the sixth season is fully funded, fundraising efforts for Season 7 have begun and the first episode has already been funded by a $2.5 million donation given by a “family that has given before to ‘The Chosen,’” Jenkins shared.
Also during the Sunday night livestream, Jenkins showed a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming limited series “Joseph of Egypt," which will be co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios.
Viewers got a brief look at the set of the upcoming biblical drama in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Actors on set provided a glimpse into their experiences filming the series, and brief scenes from the series were also shown — such as the moment Joseph is dragged away by his brothers.
“Joseph of Egypt” is the first live-action “Chosen” spinoff series from 5&2 Studios.
“It is coming together so well,” Jenkins said of the series. “The scripts are great. The editing is coming together beautifully.”
When does ‘The Chosen’ Season 6 come out?
Filming for the sixth season of “The Chosen” wrapped in mid-September, and the season is expected to begin a phased theatrical release during late 2026, Jenkins said during an April livestream.
The Season 6 finale will be theatrically released on March 12, 2027, as a standalone film “designed for the big screen experience,” he said.
For those who are eager for the next season to be released, Jenkins said, “Season 6 will come. We will tell you the dates when we know them.”
