The 2026 Emmy Award nominations are in — and HBO’s medical drama “The Pitt” leads the pack with a whopping 25 nods, including best drama and 13 acting nominations. Among them are nods for the show’s stars, Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa, both Emmy winners last year.
Close on its heels is HBO’s “Hacks,” which earned a record-breaking 24 noms in the comedy category, eclipsing the previous comedy-series record of 23 set by “The Bear” in 2024 and matched by “The Studio” last year.
“Hacks” will go head to head with “Widow’s Bay,” an Apple TV horror-comedy that rode a groundswell of enthusiasm leading into Emmy voting in mid-June, earning the new series 19 nominations, including best comedy series.
Other series earning nods in the double-digits were “Pluribus” with 18, “Beef” with 16, “DTF St. Louis” with 13, and “Saturday Night Live” and “Spider-Noir” with 11 each.
It is also a big moment for “Dancing With the Stars”: The long-running reality series earned its first Emmy nom in a decade for best reality competition series, following a social media-powered resurgence that propelled Season 34 to historic viewership.
The series will now vie with the five-time winner, “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” as well as previous winners “Top Chef,” “The Traitors” and “Survivor.”
In terms of snubs, the 12-time winner “Stranger Things” landed with a thud, earning just seven nods and getting noticeably shut out of major categories, including best drama series and acting categories.
And Jeremy Allen White, a two-time Emmy winner for best actor in a comedy series for his performance in “The Bear,” failed to land a single nomination. “The Bear,” a previous awards heavyweight, saw its nominations plummet from 23 in 2024 to a mere eight this year.
The 2026 Emmy nominations were announced Wednesday morning by previous Emmy winners Liza Colón-Zayas (“The Bear”) and Jeff Hiller (“Somebody Somewhere”), alongside Television Academy chair Cris Abrego.
“(The nominees’) creativity and talent remind us why television remains one of our most powerful art forms,” Abrego said during his opening remarks. “Every nomination today is a result of countless people coming together to create work that moves us, entertains us, and, above all, inspires us.”

When are the 2026 Emmy Awards?
The 78th annual Emmy Awards will air live on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. MDT on NBC and streaming on Peacock. The award show will be hosted by “Law & Order: SVU” executive producer and star Mariska Hargitay — marking the first time a woman has hosted the show in 15 years.
Hargitay said it was her “great honor” to “celebrate this extraordinary community of storytellers.”
“Bringing important stories into the light has been the heartbeat of my career,” she continued. “Whether it’s an actor or a director, a costumer or a sound designer, we are all so privileged to take part in creating television that unites us.”
She added, “Regardless of how, where or when we watch, we are together in our laughter, our tears, our love of stories — and our delighted anticipation to see what happens next.”
