An exciting “Jeopardy!” season filled with standout players and a few super-champions is officially over.
Here’s what to know about the show’s rerun schedule — and when a new season will return.
‘Jeopardy!’ season of super-champions officially ends
This past Friday, the long-running quiz show concluded its 42nd season with a second victory from Matthew Riggle.
Riggle’s “Jeopardy!” debut on July 23 kicked off with a strong comeback: He was down by more than $16,000 at one point and closed the gap to finish the Double Jeopardy round with a $200 lead over defending champ Dean Zach.
Thanks to a hefty wager — in addition to being the only player who knew the Final Jeopardy clue — Riggle ended up winning his first game with a large total of $48,001, per “Jeopardy!” archives.
His second game on Friday, the final episode of the season, was just as impressive. Riggle had a strong Double Jeopardy round — going from last to first place — and was able to maintain the lead after the Final Jeopardy clue that stumped all three players.
The clue, under the category “Pop Culture Nicknames”: “This star, director and writer who won an Oscar for his 1996 film was called ‘the hillbilly Orson Welles’ by Robert Duvall.”
None of the players came up with the correct response — Billy Bob Thornton.
With a smaller wager, Riggle ended the game with $16,399 and secured his second victory, per “Jeopardy!” archives.
That means the community college math instructor from Alabama will return to the Alex Trebek Stage and go for his third win when the show’s 43rd season premieres in September.
The game marked the end of an exciting season that included 31-game champ Jamie Ding, who now holds the No. 5 all-time spot for both most consecutive games won and highest winnings in regular season play.
Other impressive runs throughout the season included 14-game champ Harrison Whitaker; 12-game winning streaks from Adam Remsen and Caleb Groen — who had two games with a total of $60,000 or higher; 10-game winner Tristan Williams and eight-game champ Chris D’Angelo.
When does the new season of ‘Jeopardy!’ premiere?
“Jeopardy!” fans will have to wait several weeks for new episodes.
The show’s 43rd season premieres Sept. 14, per The Jeopardy Fan website.
