The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will return to Britain this fall, six years after their unprecedented departure from royal duties.
Prince Harry and Meghan intend to relocate their family from the United States to a private, nonroyal residence outside London later this month, as first reported by The Telegraph and People.
The couple’s children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, are enrolled to begin at a British school in September.
King Charles III was informed of the upcoming move on Sunday, but their return to Britain does not signal a return to royal duties. There are currently no plans for either Harry or Meghan to resume their roles as working members of the royal family.
Prince William and Princess Catherine have also been informed of the move.
The news comes roughly a month after Harry brought his family to the U.K. for a rare visit, which included a reunion with his father, King Charles III. But the family’s plans to relocate were not discussed during that July visit, according to The Telegraph.

The couple’s security arrangements have not been revealed, though Harry has previously raised long-standing concerns about bringing his family back to the U.K. without police protection — an issue he has fought to resolve with limited success.
Harry and Meghan stepped away from their roles as senior members of the royal family in January 2020, seeking financial independence and more privacy, before relocating their family to Montecito, California. The decision strained Harry’s relationships with his family.
In the years since, Harry has publicly expressed a desire to repair those fractured family relationships on several occasions.
The couple will make their new home in the U.K. their primary residence for an extended period, reports The Telegraph, though they will retain their California home.
