Ella Langley has been breaking records all summer and just broke another major record, previously held by Mariah Carey.
Langley’s ballad “Choosin’ Texas” toppled the Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for a 23rd nonconsecutive week, beating out the record set by Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Carey’s Christmas hit reached No. 1 multiple times between 2019 and 2026.
“Choosin’ Texas” debuted on the chart Nov. 1, and it was Langley’s fifth career entry on the chart, Billboard reported. It became her first top 10 song in January and initially led the charts in February.
How does the chart work? According to The New York Times, “Positions on the Hot 100 are calculated through a formula that incorporates streams, download sales and radio airplay.”
Last week, the hit song had 21.8 million streams in the United States, per the Times.
The song also reached the record for longest-running No 1. hit for a country song, Forbes reported.
It’s not the songwriter’s only song to reach the charts this summer. Her song “Be Her” was ranked by Billboard at No. 3, at the time, it marked the first time ever that three country songs stood at the top three spots of the charts with Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You,” ranked at the No. 2 spot, according to Forbes.

The song was written by Langley, Miranda Lambert and two others and hearkens back to a classic country vibe with a tale of heartache and longing.
“It feels surreal,” Langley told Billboard earlier this year about the song’s impact. “I think this has been the biggest moment for me, where I’ve seen where fans can change your career. For so long, you’re like, ‘Alright, one song at a time, one record at a time.’ But with this one song — and they’ve done it continuously for me — but really with ‘Choosin’ Texas’ … man, have they taken ahold of it. It’s wild.”
