The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday that the Houston Texas South Temple — first announced in April 2024 general conference — will now be known as the Fort Bend Texas Temple.
This updated name reflects the temple’s planned location on a 15.7-acre lot along Fort Bend Parkway, just north of Sienna Parkway in Missouri City, Texas.
Plans for the temple lot call for a single-story temple structure of approximately 46,000 square feet, accompanied by a Latter-day Saint meetinghouse and an ancillary building, according to a news release published Monday on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

“The temple is the gateway to the greatest blessings God has in store for each of us,” the late President Russell M. Nelson said just moments before announcing this and 14 other temples in April 2024.
“That is why we are doing all within our power, under the direction of the Lord, to make the temple blessings more accessible to members of the church.”
The Fort Bend temple is the church’s ninth announced temple in Texas and the second in Houston.
It is one of 10 temples currently in operation, under construction or in planning and design stages in Texas and will help serve the state’s more than 390,000 Latter-day Saints.
Of Texas’ 10 temples, five are in operation, three are under construction, and two others — including the Fort Bend temple — are in planning and design stages.
