Nearly 1 million people purchased approximately 4.7 million items for charity through Light the World Giving Machines in a record 126 cities worldwide during the 2025 holiday season.
The donated items will be delivered in the coming months, according to a report released Monday by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The donations will provide:
- 3.5 million meals to help feed the hungry.
- 500,000 life-saving vaccinations for children against diseases such as polio, measles and tetanus.
- 350,000 months of menstrual hygiene care via kits for women and girls worldwide.
- 108,000 children and adults receive essential clothing, including shoes, socks, coats and school uniforms.
- 97,000 books, school supplies and technology resources to support education for tens of thousands of children.
- 40,000 hygiene kits, with items such as soap, deodorant and toothpaste to support students, refugees and shelter residents.
Light the World Giving Machines in 2025 were located in a record 126 cities across 21 countries and on six continents. Of these cities, nine — ranging from Bangkok, Thailand, to Santiago, Chile — hosted Giving Machines for the very first time this past season.
The Giving Machines enabled families and individuals worldwide to serve their neighbors by donating items — ranging from goats and chickens, to business mentoring and menstrual health education — to those in need.
“Jesus of Nazareth went about doing good,” said Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in the church’s recent release.
“I can think of no better gift we can give the Savior than to love one another as he did. The Giving Machine initiative is a beautiful way to do just that.”
Following the 2024 Giving Machine season, the church reported the Light the World Giving Machine initiative had raised nearly $50 million since it began in 2017.
The new church report stated that the initiative has now raised a total of approximately $70 million.
How the church manages the funds raised worldwide
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints covers all operational costs of the annual Light the World Giving Machine initiative, distributing 100% of proceeds to the initiative’s participating nonprofits.
These nonprofits then help deliver the donated items and services to those in need around the world, using only up to 10% of the funds received for overhead costs.
In the 2025 Giving Machine season, more than 500 nonprofit organizations participated, offering more than 3,200 different items for donation at the Giving Machines.
They are expected to provide the church an itemized report of how they use the funds received, ensuring that each contribution provides the item and service that was donated from the start, according to community outreach director Kurt Soffe of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Jordan River Utah Region.
“If you have purchased piglets or a chicken or something else that’s specific, the church is going the extra mile to make certain that your donation goes for exactly what you have purchased,” Soffe told the Deseret News at a 2025 Giving Machine launch in South Jordan.
