After nearly seven years of renovations, the construction barriers that once fenced off the north side of Temple Square in Salt Lake City have officially come down.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Friday that North Temple Street in Salt Lake City is now free of barriers from State Street to West Temple.
Temple Square will be open to the public for the upcoming general conference of the Church of Jesus Christ, a recent church press release states.
The removed barriers on North Temple, plus the newly open gates and stone pathways surrounding the historic Salt Lake Temple, will enable guests and conferencegoers to more freely walk the square and explore its landscapes and statues.
A new statue of Christ — called “Jesus Christ With Mary and Martha” — was also recently installed on Temple Square, according to the church press release. Another statue depicting Christ blessing children will be added later, bringing Temple Square’s total statues to 12.
“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a global church with a universal message of Jesus Christ, in which we rejoice,” President Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said during a recent media event held for the upcoming Salt Lake Temple open house.
Church leaders and the Salt Lake Temple Celebration committee are ramping up preparations for the open house, which will take place April 5 through Oct. 1, 2027.
Tickets to attend the temple open house are currently being released in waves, with the next batch to become available on Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time.
