The Olympics were the third top news event searched worldwide in 2024. Here’s a look at the top Olympians searched in Utah.
Gymnast Simone Biles was Utah’s top searched Olympian in 2024 and she was the fourth top-searched athlete worldwide, according to Google Trends.
Biles was followed by golfer Scottie Scheffler, who won the Olympic gold medal in men’s golf this year, per Google Trends.
Basketball player Anthony Edwards was third, followed by swimmer Katie Ledecky, who has the second-most Olympic gold medals of any American athlete.
The fifth top-searched Olympian was Imane Khelif, who was the top-searched athlete worldwide and the fourth top-searched person.
What were Utah’s top ‘near me’ searches?
The “near me” category of searches highlight different things and locations Utahns were looking for in their area.
Google Trends’ number one top-searched news event worldwide was the U.S. Election, and Utah’s top two near me searches reflect that.
“Where to vote near me” and “ballot drop box near me” were number one and number two.
Those two were followed by insurance questions, “homeowners insurance near me” and “life insurance near me.”
The fifth “near me” search was entertainment related: “drive-in movies near me,” per Google Trends.
