OAG, a travel intelligence company, recently released a list of the busiest flight routes in 2024, which analyzed both domestic and international travel.
“OAG ranks the routes by the number of seats flown in either direction over the course of the year, rather than the number of flights,” according to The Points Guy.
OAG compared the data from this year with data from 2023 and 2019.
The ranking shows that Atlanta to Orlando was the busiest domestic U.S. route and Hong Kong to Taipei was the busiest international route.

There were 3.5 million seats sold on the Atlanta to Orlando route in 2024, which is a similar to the number in 2023 and 2019, according to OAG.
In second place is Honolulu to Kahului, with 3.4 million seats. This is 7% below the numbers last year but 17% higher than 2019. It was the busiest domestic route in the U.S. in 2023.
According to OAG, the biggest increase from year to year was the New York LaGuardia to Chicago O’Hare route which increased 17% from last year, with 3.1 millions seats sold this year.
This route was also a newcomer to the list entering the top 10 for the first time at number seven, according to The Points Guy.
The busiest North American domestic flight was Vancouver to Toronto route which sold almost 3.5 million seats, per OAG.

According to The Points Guy, Asia was the region that dominated the rankings world wide.
Seven of the 10 busiest international routes were in Asia.
With 6.8 million seats sold the Hong Kong to Taipei route has more than 1 million more seats than the second place route, per OAG.
Hong Kong to Taipei ranked third in 2023, but it held the top spot in 2019.
According to OAG, in second place, the Cairo to Jeddah route sold 5.5 million seats in 2024, 14% more than 2023 and 62% more than 2019.
In third place was Seoul Incheon to Tokyo Narita, which was only 1% behind second place, with 5.4 million seats.
In 2023, Kuala Lumpur to Singapore Changi was the biggest international route, even though it sold 10% more seats in 2024, it dropped from first to fourth, per OAG.
New York JFK to London Heathrow was the only U.S. route that made in into the top 10 international routes.
