5 apps to help you stick with your New Year’s resolutions

Finch

Finch is an app that helps you achieve general goals, keep tabs on your mental health and build good habits. The self-care app bills itself as the “self-care Tamagotchi,” per the San Francisco Chronicle.

When you first download the app you are greeted by a cute little bird, which you get to name and adopt as a virtual pet.

As you complete the custom to-do list that you build in the app, you can buy clothes and furniture for your bird and send him on adventures.

The app also includes other features such as meditation and focus timers, affirmations and breathing exercises, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Stepbet

If your New Year’s resolution involves being more active, walking more or simply getting some extra steps, this is the app for you.

Stepbet is a fitness game that motivates you to be more active. Players ‘bet’ on themselves to meet their personalized step goals during every week of the game, and win money if they do,” according to StepBet’s website.

You bet money when you start a game, and if you hit your goals throughout the whole game, the pot gets split between you and the other winner.

So, not only do you get your bet back, but you also make a profit.

YNAB

YNAB (You Need A Budget), is a platform that helps you with budgeting and prioritizing your spending in order to save money.

According to CNBC, the app focuses on making decisions — not gathering data.

“By showing us how much money we have available for specific purchases, we can spend without worrying we’re compromising our long-term goals,” per CNBC.

When using the app you will be able to set aside money for specific expenses, making it so you’re only spending money you already have.

YNAB helps make sure your spending and saving are aligned with your priorities.

Storygraph

If you’re someone who has set big goals for the amount of books you want to read in 2025, you need a reliable way to track your reading.

Storygraph is a user-friendly book tracking platform that is constantly being updated based on its users’ needs, per HuffPost.

The platform also provides in-depth data on your reading, showing insights into things such as your reading moods, your favorite authors and genres and what books you don’t like.

Reviews on the app are formatted as a quick survey, so you don’t have to spend time trying to write a well-composed review about your favorite or least favorite books, per HuffPost.

The app also allows you to connect with friends and see what other people have been reading.

Strava

Strava is an exercise tracking platform; the app’s top sports are running, hiking, cycling and walking. Not only does Strava allow you to track your exercise, it allows you to connect with other people and see what your friends have been doing.
