I must respond to the Readers’ Forum letter from Conor Spahr, which was published Sept. 27. His letter is filled with facts not in evidence and false statements about the president of the United States.

In the first place, the so-called whistleblower made a complaint based on hearsay about a telephone call of which he or she had no personal knowledge.

Once the transcript of the call was made public, it was discovered that there was no U.S. aid withheld from Ukraine. There was no indication of President Trump requesting an investigation of a political opponent as a political opponent. There was no apparent pressure in the question other than a mutual effort to investigate corruption in government and the part individuals in Ukraine played in interfering with the 2016 election for U.S. president.

The Mueller report did not provide evidence that President Trump obstructed justice.

The assertion that President Trump committed impeachable offenses and was implicated in multiple crimes is a fabrication without any evidence in fact.

The assertion that President Trump has failed in his duty as commander in chief to protect our country is the most outlandish statement of all. Mr. Spahr should consider the strengthening of our military, the vetting of those who cross our borders illegally and investigating corruption in government (even if the subjects are in another political party), as evidence President Trump is protecting our country.

I do agree with Mr. Spahr that it is time to listen to the American people and defend our democracy. Donald Trump was elected president of this country by the vote of the people in accordance with our Constitution.
