Support for our law enforcement has rapidly fallen nationally. Many officers have sustained serious injuries in performing their required duties. There have been riots, protests with burning of police vehicles and safety complexes.
There is now a twofold effort to defund the police departments and create response teams for certain civil disturbances. There is also discussions to have a new traffic group take over the responsibilities of the local police traffic divisions.
With an increase in retirements and some resignations, many departments will lose senior members with sound experience and knowledge that they cannot afford to lose. A review of all apprehension procedures is immediately required and changes implemented for the safety of both officer and suspect.
Most men and women in law enforcement dedicate their lives for the protection and safety of all. They are sincere in their duties to serve with caring and dedication. We need to honor these members rather than diminishing their loyal service.
Congress has a resolution in the House for over two years for a first responders day. Now is the time to pass it and allow us to show them our appreciation for their dedication and loyal service to all.
