I would love to know my new granddaughter will grow up in an America that treats people fairly; in a country where actions speak louder than words and the actions are ones to be proud of; where she can go outside every day and play without her health at risk for bad air days.

I’d like her to have friends of all ethnicities, friends who will have the same privileges and opportunities she will have, no matter their color. I want her to love America as much as we do, and to live in a country that models morality, kindness and compassion. A country that reaches out to all people and tells the truth.

I want her to have a world that is safe and beautiful — not ravaged by storms and wildfires and extreme droughts. I want her to be able to see stars at night. I want her to watch flocks of birds as they migrate or hear the sound of backyard birds every morning. I want her to eat foods that are good for her and know her drinking water is safe.

The things I want are not unusual. But she will never have any of these if Trump remains in office — no matter what has been said during the Republican convention. His actions have already spoken.
