We had the option of moving to a number of different places and after weighing up the pros and cons of the various places, decided on Salt Lake City. It wasn’t an easy choice and even when you’re confident that you’ve made the right decision, you never stop second guessing yourself.
While it wasn’t a primary reason for our choice, the U.S. News and World Report rankings have to count for something with Utah being adjudged the best state in the whole country for the fourth year in a row.
There are things you can know about a city before you move there, and things you only figure out once you are actually living in it. I knew Salt Lake City had the mountains, the trails and plenty to do outdoors. What we did not know was how quickly those things would become part of our everyday routine.
Every weekend is filled with outdoor activities and very rarely thus far are we sitting at home with nothing to do.
For instance, the other morning I ventured to the mountains just as the day was starting and to be out there with so many others, walking their dogs, running and biking was just so magical.
Salt Lake City provides the best of both worlds — a city that feels like a big town which means minimal traffic. It’s tidy and well-manicured which makes a real difference to the overall aesthetic.
It’s not just this — everything you need whether it’s food, cultural events or shopping is just half an hour away and then there is the weather.
After having been here for a few months, I can tell you it’s the best decision we ever made.
