SALT LAKE CITY — A couple of lower-seeded teams pulled off some upsets in the first round of the 6A girls soccer tournament.

Roy, the No. 20 seed, had to work into overtime to get past No. 13 Copper Hills. Abigail Dalebout delivered the game-winning goal for the Royals, helping them improve to 4.

And No. 21 Weber took advantage of first-half goals by Allie Peterson and Sarah Pollard and then held on to defeat 12th-seeded Jordan.

It will get tougher for both underdogs in the next round on Tuesday. Roy (4-12-1) takes on No. 4 Syracuse (13-3-0) in the second round, while Weber (4-13-0) travels to face No. 5 Davis (11-2-3).

6A PLAYOFFS

HERRIMAN 4, HUNTER 2: Emilie RupprechtBaylee BlairSawyer Service and Emma Carver all found the back of the net for Herriman, who built a 3-0 halftime lead. The Mustangs then held off Hunter’s comeback attempt in the second half for the first round win in the 6A state tournament.

LAYTON 5, CLEARFIELD 0: Goalkeeper Stasia Godfrey’s shutout helped secure the victory for the Lancers. Brynlee RobertsErin Bailey (2), and Kaitlyn Richins (2) each scored a goal or more for Layton.

CORNER CANYON 8, WEST 0: Corner Canyon dominated throughout their first round 6A state tournament game against the West Panthers. The Chargers scored four goals in each half, as seven different players found the back of the net.

WESTLAKE 3, WEST JORDAN 2: Mattyn Summers scored two goals and Pyper Vance added one as Westlake defeated West Jordan in the first round of the 6A playoffs.

RIVERTON 8, KEARNS 0: Belle Christensen scored four goals to lead Riverton to the commanding win over Kearns in the first round of the 6A state tournament. Hailey Burt added two goals, while Whitney Garn and Dylan Huff each added a score of their own. Huff, the Silverwolves’ goalkeeper, also earned a clean sheet.

BINGHAM 8, CYPRUS 0: Kallie James scored a pair of goals to lead seven Bingham goal scorers in the Miners’ runaway win over Cyprus in the first round of the 6A state tournament.

SKYRIDGE 7, GRANGER 0: Kaishla AndersonEllie Nelson and Addi Hunt each scored two goals, as Skyridge defeated Granger to advance to the next round of the playoffs.

FREMONT 8, TAYLORSVILLE 0: Fremont opened the playoffs with an easy win over visiting Taylorsville as eight different Silverwolves found the back of the net.

5A PLAYOFFS

BRIGHTON 2, WOODS CROSS 1: Brighton jumped out to a two-goal halftime lead before holding on to defeat Woods Cross.

LEHI 2, OREM 1: Halle Smith and Hadlee Paxman each netted a goal and Lehi defeated Orem in the first round of the 5A state tournament.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 0, VIEWMONT 0 (MOUNTAIN VIEW WON SHOOTOUT 4-2): After 100 scoreless minutes of soccer, Mountain View edged Viewmont in the shootout to advance to the 5A second round.

MURRAY 5, HIGHLAND 0: Sammie Sofonia scored a brace for the Spartans in the shutout victory over Highland. Olivia SpackmanSydney Wilcken and Kyah Karr each added a goal in the win, while Alexis Bates and Kyra Nelson combined for the clean sheet in goal.

OLYMPUS 3, BOX ELDER 0: Kelly Bullock recorded a brace and Lily Webster added another goal to lead Olympus to the victory over Box Elder in the first round of the 5A state tournament.

TIMPVIEW 7, PAYSON 0: Natalee Moffatt scored two goals, five other Timpview players added a goal and the T-Birds rolled past Payson for the 5A first round state tournament win.

PARK CITY 3, BOUNTIFUL 1: Maude CrosslandChloe Shewell and Bella Criscione each netted a goal and the Miners defeated the Braves in the first round of the 5A state tournament.

SKYLINE 8, COTTONWOOD 0: Skyline piled on the goals in the commanding first-round win over Cottonwood. Jayda Masina netted a hat trick to lead six Eagles in the scoring column.

ALTA 4, PROVO 0: Leah Lowry scored a pair of goals and Caroline Murri and Sarah Cottis added one goal each as the Hawks blanked Provo for the 5A first-round win. Reagan Reynolds recorded the shutout for Alta.

EAST 8, MOUNTAIN RIDGE 0: East dominated Mountain Ridge in the first round of the 5A state tournament. Scarlett Williams led six Panthers goal scorers with three goals.

MAPLE MOUNTAIN 6, HILLCREST 0: Nixan Jackson netted a hat trick to help lead Maple Mountain to a convincing win over Hillcrest in the first round of the 5A state tournament. Allie Fryer added two goals, while Anna Lewis chipped in another score.

WASATCH 3, SALEM HILLS 0: Quincy Downey’s brace helped lead Wasatch to a first-round victory over Salem Hills in the 5A state tournament. Mary Santiago added a goal in the win, while Anzlei Larsen earned the clean sheet in goal.

BONNEVILLE 1, SPANISH FORK 0: Summer Diamond netted the only goal of the game to lead Bonneville to the win over Spanish Fork in the first round of the 5A state tournament. Abree Beardall earned the clean sheet in goal.

2A NORTH

ROWLAND HALL 10, UTAH MILITARY HILLFIELD 0: Summer ConneryLizzie Carlin and Jada Crockett scored two goals apiece, as Rowland Hall handily defeated Utah Military Academy (Hillfield). The Winged Lions scored eight of their 10 goals in the first half.

ST. JOSEPH 4, WATERFORD 1: Sam Munson recorded a hat-trick and an assist to lead St Joseph to victory over Waterford. Ellen Rickerd added a goal in the win.
