SALT LAKE CITY — Utah and New Orleans followed up a wild game 10 days ago with another Thursday night.
This time, the Jazz saw their 10-game win streak come to an end as the Pelicans scored the final 11 points in overtime, overcoming a one-time five-point Utah lead, to win 138-132 at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
Here are three takeaways that defined the game:
It was the Donovan Mitchell and Brandon Ingram show on Thursday night. Mitchell tied his career high with 46 points — including 31 in the second half and five in overtime — on 16 of 34 shooting, along with seven 3-pointers. Ingram hit a jumper with 0.2 seconds left in regulation to put the Pelicans up one and he finished with a career-high 49 points on 15 of 25 shooting.
Ingram’s jumper in the final second of regulation appeared like it would end Utah’s win streak, but the officials called a foul on the ensuing inbound on the Pelicans’ Jaxson Hayes. Rudy Gobert hit 1 of 2 free throws to send the game — which included 23 ties and 23 lead changes, with neither team leading by double-digits — into overtime.
Gobert fouled out with 1:19 to go in overtime as Utah missed its final nine shots and watched its 132-127 lead disappear, losing in overtime for the first time this season.
