Four-star linebacker Ethan Calvert committed to the University of Utah on Thursday night, in what can only be called a huge pickup for the 2021 class.
Calvert was ranked as the third-best inside linebacker in the country by 247 Sports and the 67th best player overall. His 0.9649 rating on 247 Sports slots him as the third highest-rated recruit ever landed by the Utes.
Calvert had offers from LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon and USC, among others. Calvert chose the Utes after narrowing his final three schools to USC, UCLA and Utah.
“There were a lot of reasons why I chose Utah,” Calvert told Greg Biggins of 247 Sports. “I’ve always liked how they develop linebackers and their defensive scheme fits me really well. They have huge defensive linemen every year so the ‘backers can run around and make plays.”
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound linebacker from Oaks Christian High School in California is a nice addition to Utah’s 2021 class (Calvert is the 16th prospect to commit to the Utes) which now includes three four-star players — quarterback Peter Costelli, inside linebacker Mason Tufaga and now Calvert.
