There will be some more competition in the quarterback room at Utah State.

Logan Bonner, a redshirt junior from Arkansas State, announced Tuesday on Twitter he will become an Aggie. Bonner entered the NCAA transfer portal on Dec. 7, per 247 Sports.

Utah State has not officially announced Bonner’s addition.

Bonner threw for 3,150 yards, 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions over four seasons at Arkansas State. That included completing 59.5% of his passes for 1,863 yards, 18 touchdowns and six interceptions this season while sharing quarterback duties with redshirt sophomore Layne Hatcher.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Bonner started at quarterback for the Red Wolves in a 35-31 win over the Big 12’s Kansas State on Sept. 12. Bonner completed 17 of 28 passes for 204 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the upset win, while Hatcher threw the game-winning touchdown with 38 seconds to play. It was Arkansas State’s first win over a Power 5 conference team since 2008.

Bonner had three games in 2020 where he threw for three or more touchdowns and no interceptions — two of those games were victories — and he started the first four games for Arkansas State in 2019 before suffering a season-ending injury. In those four starts, he threw for 1,052 yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception.

The quarterback is following his coach at Arkansas State, Blake Anderson, to Logan. Anderson was named the Aggies’ head coach on Dec. 12, replacing Gary Andersen.

Bonner will add veteran leadership at the quarterback position for the Aggies, and has a considerable edge in experience over his competitors for Utah State’s starting QB job.

Redshirt sophomore Andrew Peasley ended this past season as Utah State’s starting quarterback, taking over after Utah transfer Jason Shelley was dismissed from the team. Peasley completed 53.6% of his passes for 391 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions while starting two games.

Other quarterbacks on Utah State’s roster at the end of the 2020 season included a trio of underclassmen: redshirt freshman Cooper Legas, redshirt freshman Josh Calvin and freshman Garrett Larson.

Bonner was a two-star recruit coming out of Rowlett, Texas, in the 2016 recruiting class. He also had scholarship offers from UTSA, Southern Miss and Eastern Washington, per 247 Sports.
