SALT LAKE CITY — Former Utah State outside linebacker Kyler Fackrell is reportedly signing a one-year deal worth $4.6 million with the New York Giants, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Fackrell has spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers after the team took him with a third-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. Fackrell is set to become an unrestricted free agent when the new NFL league year begins at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday. Deals that have been reported during the league’s legal “tampering” period, which began Monday, can start becoming official once the new league year begins.
Fackrell had his most successful season with the Packers in 2018, when he finished with 42 tackles and a team-high 10.5 sacks. His numbers dipped to 23 tackles and a sack in 2019 as he moved back into a reserve/special teams role. Fackrell had 111 tackles and 16.5 sacks with nine starts during his four seasons with Green Bay.
He’ll join another former Packer in New York. On Monday, the Giants agreed to a reported three-year deal with former Green Bay linebacker Blake Martinez.
Fackrell is one of 25 Utah ties who will go through the free-agency process this offseason, whether as an unrestricted, restricted or exclusive right free agent. On Monday, former BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy agreed to a reported four-year, $51 million contract with the Miami Dolphins after four seasons with the New England Patriots.
