SALT LAKE CITY — Sedrick Barefield is headed overseas.

The former University of Utah guard has signed with BC Nevezis, the team announced Thursday on Instagram.

Located in Kedainiai, Lithuania, BC Nevezis is one of 10 teams in Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL). Each year, the best of those teams are annual participants in the top European-wide basketball competitions, including EuroLeague.

Barefield joins BC Nevezis after a particular trying season for the club. The team finished in last place in the LKL in 2019, with a 6-18 record.

Barefield is entering his second season as a professional after graduating from the U. in 2019. He spent last year with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s G-League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue. Barefield played 36 games for the Blue, averaging 9 points and just over one assist per game, while shooting 38.7% from 3-point range and 84% from the free-throw line.

Barefield began his collegiate career at SMU, but only played six games for the Mustangs before electing to transfer to Utah. In three seasons with the Utes, Barefield played in 86 total games and scored over 1,000 points (1,116). As a senior in 2018-19, he started 30 games and averaged 16.8 points, 3.8 assists and 2.1 rebounds per contest.
