Midway through the third quarter of the Utah Jazz’s win over the Charlotte Hornets on Friday, Mike Conley subbed out of the game, went to the locker room and did not return.
The right hamstring tightness that took Conley out of Friday’s game will also keep him from playing in Indianapolis on Sunday against the Indiana Pacers, the final game of the Jazz’s current three-game road trip.
In conjunction with releasing the daily injury report, which featured Conley, the Jazz also announced that the team would be calling two-way player Trent Forrest up from the G League.
The Salt Lake City Stars have been in Orlando preparing for the G League season, which is taking place in the same bubble scenario that NBA players experienced last summer when finishing out the 2019-20 season.
The G League regular season is set to tip off Feb. 10, with a G League champion to be crowned in March.
Forrest, a rookie point guard out Florida State who went undrafted, is clearly being brought back to the Jazz for more depth security at the point guard position.
Though there has been no indication from the Jazz that Conley will miss significant time, the Jazz have gone through the trouble of bringing Forrest back from Orlando in light of the Conley’s injury.
Since daily COVID-19 testing has been ongoing within the G League, Forrest will not have to quarantine for any extra time before joining the Jazz and will be available to play on Sunday when the Jazz are in Indiana.
Sunday will the first missed game for Conley during the 2020-21 season.
Forrest has appeared in two games with the Jazz this season.
