Videos of the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field packed with fans circulated social media Monday.
- The videos — one of which you can see below — show a full stadium of people gathered together to watch the Rangers play the Toronto Blue Jays, according to Slate.
- The Rangers are “the only team in Major League Baseball currently allowed to operate at full capacity after the Republican governor of Texas declared the state 100% done with COVID-19 and any of the restrictions that come with it,” according to Slate.
- The team said the stadium had a sellout crowd.
Texas Rangers home stadium controversy
President Joe Biden was not thrilled with the idea that Rangers’ Globe Life Field would open up at full capacity, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
- “Well, that’s a decision they made. I think it’s a mistake,” Biden said. “They should listen to Dr. (Anthony) Fauci, the scientists and the experts. But I think it’s not responsible.”
However, the Rangers have tried to add some measures to keep the virus from spreading at these games, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
- For one, the park will have “distanced seating” in park that will allow for people to sit with space between them and others if they want it.
- Fans have also been encouraged to follow all COVID-19 health protocols, such as wearing masks, social distancing and washing hands when using the restroom.
- KDFW in Dallas-Forth Worth reported the team would leave the stadium’s roof open, too, so there could be fresh air allowed into the stadium.
