BYU strong safety Crew Wakley has entered the transfer portal, he announced Monday via social media.

The news was first reported by Mitch Harper of KSL Sports.

“I am so grateful for my time here at BYU and will always consider it home,” Wakley wrote in a social media post. Thank you to all my teammates and brothers for all of the memories that I will cherish. I want to express my love and appreciation for Coach Kalani as well as the strength staff and all they’ve done to help me develop.

Wakley appeared in 11 contests — making nine starts — for the Cougars in 2024, tallying 44 total tackles with two interceptions and a sack.

In 2023, the Sandy, Utah product recorded 59 tackles with six passes defended and a pick.

Prior to arriving in Provo, Wakley spent two seasons at Utah State, where he appeared in four games between 2020-21 for the Aggies. He converted to safety following a successful prep career as a quarterback at Jordan High, where he earned 5A First Team All-State honors in 2017.

Wakley, who competed as a walk-on at BYU, is the sixth Cougars player to enter the transfer portal since the end of the regular season, joining Kody Epps, Micah Harper, Miles Davis, Jackson Bowers and Dalton Riggs. He will have one remaining season of eligibility at his next destination.
