Utah cornerback Cameron Calhoun announced Tuesday evening that he has entered the transfer portal.
A transfer from Michigan, Calhoun saw an increased role in his redshirt freshman season in 2024 after starting cornerback Kenan Johnson suffered a season-ending injury in the first game of the campaign.
The 6-foot, 177-pound cornerback, who underwent surgery this offseason, made his first appearance as a Ute against Baylor in the second week of the season and played in each of the next 10 games, seeing the field for at least 25 snaps per contest.
Calhoun finished the season as the team’s fourth-highest rated defensive player according to Pro Football Focus, with an overall grade of 76.3.
He had 21 tackles, an interception and nine pass breakups and was one of the best Utes in coverage, holding receivers to a 48.8 completion percentage when targeted.
With starting cornerback Zemaiah Vaughn graduating, Calhoun was seemingly in line for a starting role in 2025 after his play this season. On Nov. 27, Calhoun tweeted “A UTAH MAN AM I,” on social media, which players have been doing to indicate their return to Utah. On Nov. 30, while reacting to the Ohio State-Michigan game, he tweeted “GO BLUE (I’m not transferring).”
Things can change quickly in the new college football world with NIL money and effectively unlimited free agency, and within minutes of Calhoun’s announcement Tuesday, he posted that Wisconsin had offered him a scholarship.
More schools are sure to follow in what will be a competitive recruitment for the talented cornerback.
