Going into the 2025 NFL season, the University of Utah has increased its presence in the league over every other school from the state of Utah.
With the season kicking off Thursday, there are currently 31 former Utes on an NFL roster, with 17 on active 53-man rosters, 13 more on practice squads and one more on injured reserve.
That nearly doubles BYU, which has 17 total former Cougars in the NFL — 11 on active rosters, one on a practice squad and five more on injured reserve lists.
Those two schools headline the total of 75 players with Utah ties currently on an NFL roster, including 47 on active rosters.
Utah State is represented by seven former Aggies at the pro level — four on active rosters, two on practice squads and another (who finished his career at BYU) on IR.
Among other Utah colleges, Weber State (four players — two on active rosters, one each on practice squad and IR) and Southern Utah (three players — two on active rosters, one on IR) are also represented.
In addition, there are 14 other players who prepped at Utah high schools, including 11 on active rosters and three on practice squads.
Of note: players are sorted by their most recent Utah school they played for, but they can count toward multiple Utah schools’ final player totals.
The 47 Utah ties on active rosters is down from last season, when there were 54 players with Utah ties who made an initial 53-man active roster in the NFL.
In terms of Utah ties on active rosters heading into the season in other previous years, there were 52 in 2023, 48 in 2022, 53 in 2021, 49 in 2020, 45 in 2019 and 38 in 2018.
