No. 24 Utah is pulling out all the stops, uniform-wise, ahead of the Utes’ big game against No. 17 Cincinnati on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Utah announced its uniforms for the game — an all-black “throwback” look to correspond with the black-clad fans at Rice-Eccles Stadium in the school’s annual “dark mode” game — with a black circle-and-feather helmet.
On Wednesday, the Utes revealed their actual helmets, which were all hand-painted by Armando Villarreal, the artist that has worked on the Utes’ previous hand-painted helmets.
The black helmet features an artistic take on Utah’s “circle-and-feather” logo and is reminiscent of the Utes’ first-ever hand-painted helmet in 2016, only on a larger scale this time.
In 2016, Utah defeated USC 31-27, rallying from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit. Tim Patrick caught the game-winning touchdown from Troy Williams with 16 seconds remaining in the game.
Utah, fighting to stay alive in the Big 12 race, takes on Cincinnati at 8:15 p.m MDT this Saturday. ESPN’s “College GameDay” pregame show will broadcast live from Presidents’ Circle on Utah’s campus from 7 a.m.-10 a.m.
