BYU is still the first team out of the College Football Playoff ahead of conference championship week.
The 11-1 Cougars are No. 11 in the latest CFP rankings, staying put in the same place as last week’s rankings.
Three two-loss teams — No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 9 Alabama and No. 10 Notre Dame — are ranked ahead of BYU.
The message is clear: BYU must defeat No. 4 Texas Tech in Saturday’s Big 12 championship (10 a.m. MST, ABC) to get into the College Football Playoff field. With five spots reserved for conference champions, there are just seven at-large spots available in the 12-team playoff.
The Cougars must be ranked in the top 10 in the final College Football Playoff rankings, released on Sunday, to get into the field.
BYU finished off its 11-win regular season by defeating UCF 41-21 on Saturday in Provo.
Meanwhile, 10-2 Utah was dropped two spots to No. 15 after a 31-21 win over Kansas in Lawrence.
