Utah continues to add to its cornerback room through the transfer portal.
After adding Akron cornerback Elijah Reed on Friday, the Utes secured a commitment from South Florida cornerback James Chenault on Monday night, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Chenault, a 6-foot, 180-pound sophomore, logged 32 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups for the Bulls in 2025.
Chenault started eight games for USF, playing in nine, and had a PFF grade of 66.2 for the season.
Utah will be replacing two starting cornerbacks — Smith Snowden and Blake Cotton — in 2026. While the Utes have Rock Caldwell, Jason Stokes Jr. and JC Hart returning, Chenault will bring some competition to the room and push for a starting job.
Utes add San Jose State running back
Utah continued adding to its roster on Monday evening with the transfer of San Jose State running back Steve Chavez-Soto in the transfer portal.
In his freshman season for SJSU, Chavez-Soto rushed for 448 yards and seven touchdowns on 87 carries.
The 6-foot, 205-pound running back is the first running back to transfer to Utah in this cycle, and with his build, could play a similar role as NaQuari Rogers did.
Sophomore Wayshawn Parker, who re-signed with Utah, and speedster Daniel Bray are on Utah’s 2026 roster as of now. Chavez-Soto, who averaged 3.85 yards after contact, could play a key role when the Utes need to pick up tough yardage.
JUCO cornerback commits to Utah
Utah transfer news has been coming in threes this cycle, and it was no different on Monday, as the Utes got a late-night commitment from junior college cornerback Earl Parker.
Parker, who played high school football in Fairbanks, Alaska, spent last season at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. He racked up 30 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, an interception and two pass breakups.
Utah has now added three cornerbacks from the junior college and college level to its 2026 roster.
