Ogden native Zac Blair, the former BYU standout who is now an Orem resident, had a solid second round at the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in New York Friday, shooting an even-par 70 after an opening-round 71 (+1) on Thursday.

Blair, son of BYU All-American Jimmy Blair, was tied for 24th on Friday. The effort assured he will make the cut for the weekend of this major championship.

Blair’s second round highlights included a comeback from 3-over par through the first six holes when he made birdie on No. 8. He then birdied 14 and 16 and wound up shooting a 33 on the back nine to tie with Englishman and 2013 U.S. Open champion Justin Rose, among a slew of others.

Though he is now a pro, Blair remains one of the most successful amateur golfers the state of Utah has ever produced, winning titles across the state for a span of five years. His outstanding short game and consistent ball striking elevated him amongst his peers in Utah junior and collegiate golf.

On Friday, Blair hit 9 of 17 greens in regulation, 8 of 14 fairways and was strong in scrambling and putting metrics for his round.
