Brighton Sweeps Team Titles at Husky Run

Brighton picked up a pair of team victories Saturday morning at the Husky Run, hosted by Hillcrest at Valley Regional Park in Taylorsville. The Bengals won the boys race with 49 points and the girls race with 53, topping a field that included teams from across classifications.

Ogden senior Avery Barton was the girls individual winner, pulling away to finish in 17:43.92 — more than 36 seconds clear of Brighton junior Bridget Smit (18:20.00). Rich senior Lyda Taylor ran third in 19:14.76 but did not have a full team scoring. Brighton placed four runners in the top 16 to hold off Ogden (67), while Woods Cross (87), Union (89) and Copper Hills (90) were bunched tightly for third through fifth.

Brighton junior Whittaker Bettis led the boys race from start to finish in 15:53.43. West Jordan sophomore Elliot Johns (16:09.42) and Morgan senior Caleb Lewis (16:13.38) rounded out the top three. West Jordan placed second as a team at 59 behind a solid group that included Andoni Garcia (4th) and Samuel Ferre (14th), with Ogden third at 70. Brighton’s five scorers all finished in the top 20.

Cedar and Pine View Claim Team Titles at Cedar City Invitational

Cedar and Pine View each came away with team wins Saturday morning at the Cedar City Invitational, held at Cedar High School on a grass course at nearly 5,900 feet of elevation.

Cedar junior Eliza Johnson led wire to wire in the girls race, winning in 17:51.01 ahead of Hurricane junior Arya Armstrong (17:57.90). Johnson’s teammate Macie Mitchell was close behind in third (18:17.17), just edging Desert Hills’ Kate Spriggs (18:17.40) in a tight finish. Cedar’s depth — with four scorers in the top 22 — carried the Reds to the team title at 55 points over Desert Hills (70) and Canyon View (84).

Desert Hills senior Jackson Mathews posted the fastest time of the day in the boys race, crossing in 14:55.81 to win by 15 seconds over Pine View junior Benjamin Williams (15:11.00). But Pine View’s pack running told the story in the team standings, with three Panthers in the top eight and five in the top 14 for a score of 31. Desert Hills was right behind at 34, while Canyon View (104), Hurricane (113) and Crimson Cliffs (116) rounded out the top five.

Riverton Takes Both Team Titles at Park City Twilight

Riverton opened the 2026 cross country season with a strong showing Thursday evening, taking the boys and girls team titles at the Park City Twilight meet at Quinn’s Junction Athletic Fields. The 3-mile race, held at altitude on a warm August evening, drew 20 boys teams and 16 scoring girls teams from across Utah, along with entries from Elko, Nevada.

Riverton juniors Carson Stafford (15:18.9) and Kurt Perry (15:25.7) went 1-2 in the boys race to lead the Silverwolves to 28 points. Olympus senior William Towers ran third in 15:38.0, and Westlake placed second as a team with 76 points behind the duo of Falcon Jones (15:41.3) and Brennan Keogh (15:53.8). Mountain Ridge (113) and Mountain View (119) were third and fourth.

In the girls race, Olympus senior Adria Favero took the individual win in 18:10.4, followed by Riverton’s Isabel Preston (18:23.6) and Green Canyon’s Lizzie McFarland (18:44.4). Riverton’s team depth made the difference in the standings, placing four runners in the top eight to finish with 35 points. Mountain Ridge was second at 111.5, with Corner Canyon (136), Mountain View (140) and Highland (146) close together behind them.

Skyline, Spanish Fork Take Team Titles at Payson Night Hunt

Skyline and Spanish Fork came away with team wins Friday evening at the Payson Night Hunt, hosted by Payson High School at the Gene Hillman Rec Center.

The night meet drew a mix of 4A and 5A programs along with several smaller schools for an early-season test under the lights.

Manti senior Paul Gardner turned in the fastest time of the night, winning the boys race in 15:02.0 — more than 40 seconds clear of Alta’s Myles Jessen (15:42.1). But Spanish Fork’s depth carried the Dons to the team title at 58 points, placing four runners between fourth and 13th. Carbon (86) was second, while Tooele and Alta tied at 90 for third. Uintah’s Kamden Gleason and Cale Manwaring ran eighth and ninth overall but competed as individuals.

Skyline junior Hallee Sullivan controlled the girls race, winning in 17:48.2 ahead of Salem Hills senior Haley Livingston (18:17.3) and Payson sophomore Ruby Dixon (18:56.6). The Eagles backed up Sullivan’s win with five scorers in the top 12, finishing with 32 points to win comfortably over Salem Hills (84) and Carbon (94). Spanish Fork (108) and Payson (134) rounded out the top five.
