BYU’s big man situation just became even more interesting.
Cougars signee Jakub Urbaniak has been ruled ineligible by the NCAA, according to a Thursday report from Robby McCombs of Vanquish the Foe.
BYU officially announced its signing of Urbaniak on Aug. 6, but the Poland product will now return to Europe to play for Spanish club CB Gran Canaria.
Urbaniak has played professionally in Poland since 2022, averaging 9.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for WKS Slask Wroclaw this past season.
He was projected to be BYU’s backup center behind fifth-year Michigan State transfer Jaxon Kohler, who may have his own eligibility drama ahead.
But Kevin Young has already managed to replace Urbaniak in the backup big man department. Per McCombs, Serbian center Petar Ostojic has committed to the Cougars and is already on campus in Provo.
Ostojic, who stands at 7-foot-1, averaged 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds across 29 games for Dynamic VP in Serbia last year.
“There’s little concern Ostojic will be eligible due to the low level he has played at,” wrote McCombs. “Everyone in his same situation has been cleared by the NCAA.”
