Ski resorts in the West, including Utah, could see much-needed snow this weekend, providing skiers and snowboarders with a couple of powder days.

A big pattern change is coming with different storm systems, a moderate surge of atmospheric river moisture, heavy valley rains and feet of higher elevation snowfall, according to OnTheSnow meteorologist Chris Tomer.

Wyoming, Idaho and Montana resorts will see heavy accumulation late Friday and Saturday with more on the way next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tomer is predicting 20 to 30 inches or more at Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee in Wyoming and the same for Sun Valley, Brundage and Schweitzer in Idaho.

The OnTheSnow forecast shows 8 to 14 inches at Big Sky, Bridger Bowl, Discovery, Whitefish and Snowbowl in Montana.

In California, Lake Tahoe area resorts are looking at 8 to 14 inches, with Mammoth getting 4 to 8 inches.

Tomer is forecasting moderate to heavy snow in Utah over the weekend and light snow next Wednesday. He’s predicting 6 to 12 inches across the Wasatch range, with the higher end totals at Solitude, Brighton, Alta and Snowbird.

The main storm track will stay just north of Colorado through next Wednesday, according to Tomer. Steamboat and the northern mountains might see an inch Sunday.
