It’s time to mark your calendars, folks. McDonald’s’ famous McRib sandwich is returning to menus across the nation starting on Dec. 2.

This morning, McDonald’s announced the sandwich’s long-awaited return via Twitter:

This exciting news initially came to light through leaked documents posted on the conspicuously named website McRibGate.com, and was later confirmed by Business Insider.

“The wait is over,” the company released in a statement on Friday, “for a limited time, McRib regulars and ‘first-timers’ across the country can soon get in on the McRib magic with seasoned boneless pork slathered in smoky, tangy barbecue sauce, topped with slivered onions and tart pickles.”

December 2020 will mark the first time in eight years that the McRib will grace McDonald’s menus nationwide. The sandwich’s winter homecoming arrives after years of fans begging the fast food chain to bring it back.

In recent years the company has been selling the McRib only regionally. The scarcity of the product is what ultimately led McRib megafan Alan Klein to create McRibLocator.com, a website designed to, “help all McRib fans find the elusive sandwich.”

When asked about the news of the national re-release of the McRib, Klein said, “In a year as challenging as this year has been, to throw a little McRib out there to those that really want to have it, it feels like something that would be a pretty nice gesture.”
