Dollar General will be cutting its store hours due to the coronavirus while also offering time dedicate to senior shoppers.
What’s going on?
- Dollar General announced Tuesday that the first hour of business will be dedicated to senior shoppers only, which will help those shoppers “avoid busier and more crowded shopping periods.”
- Dollar General has asked other customers to plan shopping time around those who might be vulnerable to the widespread coronavirus, including those 60 and older.
- Dollar General stores will close an hour early, too, ”to allow employees to clean and restock store shelves, as well as for their health and wellbeing.”
- Dollar General said in a separate tweet that there is no “qualifying” or “specific age” for the senior hours, though.
Dollar General isn’t alone
- Multiple grocery stores and marketplaces have begun opening early to accommodate senior citizens who might be at risk for COVID-19, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
- For example, Stop & Shop, a popular supermarket chain in New England, announced it would open from 6 to 7 a.m. “to serve customers who are ages 60 and over only.”
- Stop & Shop said: “We’re making the decision to offer this every day of the week to allow for community members in this age category to shop in a less crowded environment, which better enables social distancing. They’ll also be shopping prior to any other customers entering.”
