Costco will begin offering hours only to senior shoppers during the coronavirus pandemic.

What’s going on:

  • Costco announced in a Facebook post Saturday that it “will temporarily implement special operating hours for members who are 60 and older” on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • The store will open its pharmacies earlier. Food courts will keep their current hours.
  • The hours apply to all stores except for the Business Center locations.

Criteria to visit to Costco

  • Only members who meet specific criteria “will be allowed to enter the warehouse and guests will not be admitted.”
  • In a follow-up question, Costco said the rules “would apply for members who are 60 and older and those with physical disabilities.”

Other stores begins senior-only hours

  • Multiple other stores and marketplaces have begun instituting hours for the elderly to stay safe from the coronavirus, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
  • Walmart will host its first hourlong senior shopping event Tuesday, USA Today reports. These will be scheduled every Tuesday until April 28 for those 60 and older. The one hour will start before stores open, which can vary by location.
  • Dollar General announced it would offer its first hour of business to senior shoppers, too, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
