People across Brooklyn cheered for health care workers, first responders, doctors and nurses Friday night in response to efforts being made to battle the coronavirus.

What’s happening:

  • Social media members shared video and reports of people cheering on their health care workers in the New York City borough on Friday night.
  • The health services scene in New York has become dire as hospitals fill up, open ICU beds are at a minimum and the city calls for more ventilators and equipment.

New York City and the state of New York remain one of the major spots for the coronavirus epidemic. So far, there have been 430 deaths in New York with 365 in New York City alone, according to The New York Times. There are more than 85,000 known cases in the state, too.
