A new photo shows a crowded United Airlines flight, raising questions about how social distancing will work amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Dr. Ethan Weiss shared a photo Saturday that shows what looks like a full United Airlines flight, which traveled from Newark, New Jersey, to San Francisco, according to USA Today.
Weiss tweeted: “I guess @united is relaxing their social distancing policy these days? Every seat full on this 737.”
Weiss said in a follow-up tweet, “This is the last time I’ll be flying again for a very long time.”
He also shared a note from United’s chief customer officer, which said that United will be “automatically blocking middle seats to give you enough space on board.”
Based on the photo, that didn’t happen.
Following the image going viral, United Airlines said it can’t guarantee the middle seats on the plane will remain empty, according to CBS News.
United said on its website it can’t guarantee customers will be seated next to an empty seat. The company said there is low demand for travel so seats will likely remain open.
