The U.S. Postal Service will soon award a $6.3 billion contract for a new mail truck design in 2020, and some of the finalists have already leaked online.

What’s going on?

The Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV) will replace the Grumman Long Life Vehicle for the USPS in the near future. The GLLV went out of production back in 1994, according to Fox Business.

  • Close to 180,000 vehicles will be bought from five to seven years for $6.3 billion, according to Fox Business.
  • The USPS planned to choose the next vehicle at the end of last year. The process was delayed so they moved it to 2020. But the coronavirus pandemic forced a second delay.

The finalists

Three finalists remain to take on the new role as the commonplace USPS truck, according to Trucks.com. The three options include:

  • Karsan/Morgan Olsen — This is a tall truck vehicle with a wide window display that looks like a mix between a party bus and a regular bus.
  • Oshkosh/Ford — This is essentially an elongated model of the current mail truck with a slanted front window.
  • Workhorse — Similar to the Karsan, this truck’s got a huge front window and a wide back area, too.
