Walmart will debut a new annual subscription-based service this month, giving subscribers access to groceries, gas and free delivery services amid the coronavirus pandemic.
What’s going on?
- Walmart will release a new annual membership called Walmart Plus.
- The plan will cost $98 per year or $12.95 per month.
- The service launches nationwide Sept. 15.
What do you get?
- Walmart Plus subscribers receive free delivery on more than 160,00 items, including groceries, toys and electronics. Orders must be at least $35. Deliveries could arrive on the same day.
- Subscribers will receive $0.05 discount on gas at Walmart Murphy USA and Murphy Express gas station.
- More perks will come in the future.

This is Walmart’s first major play to battle Amazon Prime, which runs for $119 per year and has many of the same perks.
- Yahoo Finance said: “It also solidifies Walmart’s own status as an online behemoth in its own right. Throughout the pandemic, Walmart reaped the rewards of being an essential business that remained open. Recently, the company saw a massive spike in its e-commerce business, as consumers stocked up on pantry essentials and other merchandise during lockdowns.”
