The final count and confirmation of the 2020 Electoral College tally turned violent when clashes broke out between supporters of President Donald Trump and police, prompting the U.S. Capitol to be locked down.
The Jan. 6 lockdown was preceded by a contentious election cycle that included several legal disputes following President-elect Joe Biden’s Nov. 3 win. Both chambers of Congress were evacuated when protestors entered the Capitol as lawmakers were meeting and expected to vote to affirm the election results.
