Oreo and the NBA are teaming up to release “NBA Dynasty Oreos,” limited edition cookies that highlight six of “the greatest dynasties in NBA history,” Food and Wine reports.
According to the site, the six teams that will have their logos featured on the iconic cookie are the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat.
“You’re literally tasting the greatness of our products and experiencing the greatness of the NBA,” said Rachel Lawson, the associate director of scale consumer engagement and retail for Mondelez International (Oreo’s parent company). “We wanted to enable NBA fans to relive great moments of the NBA” (via Forbes).
According to Forbes, the special edition cookies will be available for purchase nationwide starting March 29. Just keep your eyes peeled for the box with the Larry O’Brien trophy printed on it.
Food and Wine reports that the NBA Dynasty Oreos are the first of many upcoming collaborations between Mondelez International and the NBA, as the snack company recently signed a multiyear partnership with the basketball association.
According to Uproxx, Mondelez will continue to incorporate NBA branded snacks for its other products including: Sour Patch Kids gummy candies, Chips Ahoy! Cookies and Nutter Butters. Food and Wine adds that the company will also explore products in collaboration with the WNBA, NBA G League, NBA 2K League, and USA Basketball.
“We’re both in the business of creating moments where people can enjoy and for brands to engage with our fan base,” said Daniel Rossomondo, the NBA’s head of media and business development, global partnerships (via Forbes).
He added (via Food and Wine), “Creating unique products and consumer promotions with Mondelez International’s iconic collection of brands is going to be an enjoyable way to bring our partnership together for NBA fans.”
Oreo’s collaboration with the NBA marks the cookie brand’s second big collaboration in recent history. Last December, Oreo collaborated with Lady Gaga to release special pink and green “Chromatica” cookies to promote the pop icon’s latest album.
