Jill Biden shared how she felt about Pelosi being among the top Democrats who showed reservations about Joe Biden running for a second term, per The Washington Post.

“We were friends for 50 years,” the first lady said. ”It was disappointing.”

The first lady shared that she has been thinking a lot about the relationships in her life lately, including her friendship with Pelosi.

About the situation with Pelosi, Jill Biden added, “Let’s just say I was disappointed with how it unfolded, I learned a lot about human nature.”

What happened between Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi during the election?

Over the summer as the presidential race began heating up, multiple lawmakers in the Democratic Party came out to say they didn’t believe that Joe Biden would be able to beat Trump in November. According to CNN, Pelosi was seen as a major part of the movement to pressure the president to drop out of the race.

According to CNN, “Pelosi privately told President Biden in July that polling showed he could not defeat Trump and could upend Democrats’ chances of winning the House in November if he remained in the race.”

In July, Pelosi went on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and said ‘It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run,” after he already said he would run, according to The Washington Post.

After Kamala Harris lost the election in November, Pelosi lamented that if Joe Biden had dropped out sooner, Harris would have had a better chance, per Fox News.

According to The Washington Post, Jill Biden said she believes her husband could have served for another four years.

In December, both the first lady and Trump attended the reopening of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. At the event they were seated with French first lady Brigitte Macron between them.

When Macron left her seat at one point, photographers captured Jill Biden making small talk with Trump.

Jill Biden shared what was said in their interaction. Trump said to the first lady, “‘I had a good meeting with your husband in the Oval Office,’” referring to a meeting that lasted two hours, per The Washington Post.

“Yes,” Jill Biden said she replied, “because you’re both talkers.”

So why did she even speak to Trump, who, according to The Washington Post, her husband referred to as an “existential threat” to democracy?

Jill Biden said that both her and her husband respect the nation’s institutions and traditions. “What would be the point of nastiness?” she added.

Jill and Joe Biden welcomed their first great-grandchild on Jan. 8, when their grandaughter Naomi Biden gave birth to a baby boy. According to NBC, this made Joe Biden the first modern president to have a great-grandchild born while in office.

Their great-grandchild was born the day before Joe Biden spoke at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

According to The Washington Post, Jill Biden also shared how she wants to be remembered after her time in the White House, “I hope that women see me as a reflection of themselves,” she said. “You know, a mom, a grandmom, a working woman, a sister, a friend.”

Along with wishes for her own legacy the first lady also shared that she hopes her husband is remembered as “a strong, empathetic president with integrity and character.”
