ANNABELLA, Sevier County — A Utah man was killed Monday in a four-car crash south of Laramie, Wyoming, police said.
Matthew R. Anderson, 52, of Annabella, was driving a semitractor-trailer east on Wyoming Highway 230 about 1:00 p.m., according to Wyoming Highway Patrol.
A Ford pickup truck, also driving east, was stopped on the road waiting to make a left turn, police said. Anderson’s truck, followed by a GMC pickup truck, was coming up behind the Ford truck when the GMC truck passed Anderson, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol.
The driver of the GMC truck hadn’t noticed the Ford stopped in the road ahead of Anderson’s truck and hit the Ford from behind, pushing the Ford into the westbound lane, police said. The Ford was pushed into the path of another semitractor-trailer driving west, resulting in a head-on collision.
The driver of the westbound semitrailer then lost control and entered the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with Anderson, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol. The westbound semitrailer tipped and rolled after the collision.
Anderson died from his injuries at the scene. It’s unknown whether Anderson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police said.
The other three drivers involved were transported to a hospital with injuries. Police are investigating whether inattention, unsafe passing, or speed on the part of the GMC driver contributed to the crash, Wyoming Highway Patrol said.
