KAYSVILLE — Firefighters discovered the body of a Kaysville man inside his burning home late Friday.
The fire was reported at 10:15 p.m. at a house at 529 E. 250 North in Kaysville.
As Kaysville, Layton and Farmington fire crews arrived, they saw flames and smoke venting from the windows of the home. “An aggressive fire attack was made, but due to the heavy fire conditions, crews could not initially make entry into the home,” the Kaysville Fire Department said in a post on Facebook.
After the blaze was “knocked down” and firefighters could enter the house, they discovered the home’s sole occupant, DeRay Taylor, 76, dead inside.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones, who have been notified of the incident,” the post says.
Neighbors also took to social media to share their condolences.
“My sweet neighbor who loved his roses and always had a smile to share when I drove or walked by,” one woman wrote.
“We will miss his sweet smile at church. He was truly a wonderful man,” another said.
The cause of the fire has not yet been announced. Kaysville police and the state fire marshal’s office planned to launch a joint investigation Saturday.
Kaysville received additional firefighting assistance from the South Davis Metro Fire Department and the South Weber Fire Department.
