TOOELE — More criminal charges have been filed against a Grantsville man accused of sexually abusing four children.
Mark Swan, 48, was charged Wednesday in Tooele County’s 3rd District Court with two counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
The sex abuse occurred in 2013 starting when the victim was 12 years old, according to charging documents.
The new charges bring the total number of felonies Swan faces in three separates cases to 26. He is accused of abusing four children.
The investigation into the abuse began July 18 when a parent contacted police to report that a family acquaintance had inappropriately touched their three children, according to a police probable cause affidavit.
After news of his arrest was reported by the media, additional alleged victims stepped forward.
On July 22, Swan was charged with four counts of sodomy on a child, four counts of object rape of a child and two counts of aggravated kidnapping, all first-degree felonies. In addition, he was charged with three counts of attempted sex abuse of a child, a third-degree felony.
Four days later, Swan was charged with an additional two counts of rape of a child, object rape of a child, three counts of sodomy on a child, and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies. He was also charged with three counts of sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.
One girl, under the age of 14 told police she had been abused so many times that she couldn’t recall every incident, according to the charges. Prosecutors even noted in the affidavit that “the charges represent a fraction of the number (of) times the defendant sexually abused the child victim.” Swan often babysat her at his home, police say.
Swan is scheduled to be arranged on his two prior cases on Dec. 3.
