SALT LAKE CITY — A woman was found injured in life-threatening condition Thursday in an alley in Salt Lake City.

About 9:40 a.m., police were called on a report of a possible traffic accident near 1351 S. Jefferson St. The first arriving officers did not find any vehicles in the area, but did find a woman with multiple, severe injuries in the middle of a road in a dead-end alley, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer.

“She was in the street so (witnesses) thought she had been involved in a traffic accident, but when officers arrived, there were no vehicles here,” he said. “It does appear that she was possibly assaulted prior to being left here in the alley.”

The alley where the woman was found is near several businesses, but is not in an area that receives a lot of traffic.

Based on surveillance video collected from the area, Shearer said detectives were looking Thursday for a black Nissan SUV.

It was not immediately known who called 911.
