DRAPER — Draper police are warning the community to be aware of their surroundings after a 26-year-old woman running along the Porter Rockwell Trail reported being grabbed by a man who attempted to take her clothes off Thursday evening.

The woman used pepper spray to defend herself, police reported in a news release. The attacker, described as wearing dark clothing, fled the area of 1300 E. Constitution Ave. (about 12500 South).

Police were unable to locate the man after the attack reported about 8 p.m.

“While this is an isolated and rare event, it is still important to use caution while exercising on the trail system. We want to remind trail users to take the necessary safety precaution(s),” the Draper City Police Department news release noted.

Officials recommend exercising with others and to carry a whistle, pepper spray or other devices that could help “draw attention or stop an attack.”

The investigation is ongoing.

The Porter Rockwell Trail runs between Pioneer Avenue in Sandy and Minuteman Drive along the Point of the Mountain south of Draper, and passes along parks, schools and businesses.
