The school’s lunch workers gave the students a taste of the Utah State Fair by making cow cookies and corn dogs, wearing colorful costumes and offering prizes in a coloring contest. And each student who eats school lunch received a ticket to the Utah State Fair, which begins its 11-day run on Thursday. The fair, now ongoing in some form or another in Utah since 1856, runs through Sept. 15, and will feature animal exhibits, carnival rides, a rodeo and a variety of musical performances. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily except on Sept. 10, 11 and 12, when gates open at noon. Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for senior citizens 62 and older, and youths 6 to 12; children under 5 get in free. All-you-can-ride wristbands for carnival rides are $28 per day. Matinee all-you-can-ride wristbands are $20 per day. The matinee wristband is valid from the carnival’s opening until 6 p.m. Parking at the Utah State Fairpark, 155 N. 1000 West, is $10, cash only.
