DUCHESNE — Two people were killed Sunday in Duchesne County after a cow in the road caused a series of accidents.
A Ford Explorer was traveling on U.S. 40 about 8:15 p.m. when the vehicle hit a cow, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The driver of the Ford got out of his vehicle as well as a woman in the back seat of another car that was behind the Explorer.
“Both individuals were on the shoulder of the roadway, when a GMC pickup traveling westbound came upon the dead cow in the road, struck it, lost control and struck the Ford. The Ford was propelled forward by the impact and struck both individuals standing on the shoulder,” according to a statement from the highway patrol.
A 48-year-old man from Roosevelt and a 31-year-old Vernal woman were killed. Their names were not immediately released.
